Impostor

When I was a kid, maybe 10 years old, I was playing with some other kids in my Grandma's house. We were disusing folk ghost tales, and this one kid was all like "Yeah, El Carreton is the worse"... Now, I'm sure I would have freaked out if not for one fact: What the fuck is a Carreton? So this kid goes on saying what the dude was and it was scary, at least for a "maybe 10 years old" kid like me. I've always been skeptic, so I told him "Sauce or GTFO".... Well, actually I told him "Where did you came up with that?", because it sounded too cool to be made up, so he comes and says "My brother has a Gillman tape that's filled with these kind of stories". Gillman, huh? I'll check it out.

Wrong. Thing. To do.

Like I said, I was like 10. And back then metal was bad. Let me tell you how bad. Metal = Drugs. Metal = Violence. Metal = Satanic Sects. Funny fact: My parents always told me to beware of those, but they did SUCH a bad job that I had no idea what to be on the look out for! I had no idea what Satanic meant, and I had no idea what a Sect was. So if some guy came offering me candy I might have took it, because he was obviously not a Satanic Sect, he was a human being. Anyhow... My parents intervened and well, after hours of lecturing that I though stupid because I had done NOTHING wrong, I just listened to a couple of songs, it was no more metal for me.

They. Fucking. Lost.

My mom has a aunt, and this lovely lady has 4 sons that are between 6 and 10 years older than me; and they were a big influence in my life, because my parents were always like "Look at Rafael, he's doing great at school", or "Look at Domingo, he lives in Caracas and still calls to talk to his mother", so I kind of look up to them, AND WITH GOOD REASON, they really are exemplary human being. But that backfired, because a couple of years after the "Metal = Eternal Damnation" speech, I was hanging out with them, and guess what kind of music they liked? I'll tell you: Collective Soul, Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers... So little by little I came to find out about KoRn, Limp Bizkit, Metallica, Megadeth and so on and so forth. And then it hit me... Wha... Wait... It's coming to me... There's a guy.... El Carreton!... GILLMAN!!

Fuck. Yeah.

This guy was the real deal. I mean all that Soda Stereo, Zapato 3... All nice, but it was not my thing. This guy was a true Metal Head, a real rebel, a "Warrior", like one of his songs said. They guy rocked hard, and he sings in Spanish! Wow, a Spanish speaking Metal Head! And he wrote songs like this one.

Then this fucker does something like this. (Read the link, please. It's in Spanish)

"Oh, Guaji, but you have to understand, everyone is allowed to have an opinion in politics"

Fuck. You.

And fuck him. That is not what this is about. You can have all the faith you want in whatever the fuck you like, but you do not talk trash about politicians just to turn around and then become a kiss ass of one of such said being, that is betraying your convictions, that's what it is. Besides, politicians are not people to be loved, they are people either aspiring to, or with a job that's about the administration of a Country, or a tiny piece of one. Now... Let's say you have a business, and you hire a guy, and they guy fucks up, turns out he's not the guy for the job. What do you do? You fire the guy, because your business is suffering for it right? Same goes with Presidents, Governors, Mayors, Congressmen and so on and so forth. So if/when Leopoldo Lopez, or Capriles takes the presidency, and they fuck up even a little bit you WILL listen to me saying what kind of assholes I think they are... Just as you've heard me talk trash about Manuel Rosales, Pablo Perez and Eveling de Rosales... Stupid assholes saying that one guy in power for too long is bad when that old fart did 2 terms Mayor, 2 terms Governor, ran for President and then came back to Mayor while running his right hand man for Governor and, later, his wife for Mayor. Stupid.

Why am I writing this? I am truly ashamed of listening to Gillman. I've got his music on my iPod and I never play it. I'm ashamed of saying I've banged my head to him. I never went to a Gillmanfest. I know you were always kind of "de izquierda", you did write songs like Victima de la Sociedad (Victim of Society)... But one thing is being "de izquierda" and another one is being blind to the truth and a become a turn coat. "This is wrong" then, a couple of years and a truck load of money later, you're all "This is amazing". And the worse thing is... This Maduro guy is not Chavez, man.

You said it yourself man: "El tiempo descubre a los impostores" (Time tells on impostors).

And yes, those things published there, those tweets are old. And his support for those in power is old news. But Levantate y Pelea (Stand Up and Fight) is 30 years old this year. And now, more than ever, hurts to listen to that. Specially since I really like that song.
